What is the best phaser pedal?

I am looking for a new phaser pedal to ask for before christmas. I want one that can sound like a jet taking off if you know what im talking about. I wont get anything over $100. I was thinking about the electro harmonix small stone or the digitech hyper phaser. Is there any others that are better?
i already have a flanger

Either get an MXR Phase 90 or an Electro Harmonix Small Stone.
I'm getting the latter.

Then you're looking for a flanger. They're quite different from phasers. You should look into Electro Harmonix flangers.
Also, look up some flanger vids on youtube.

I am setting up a guitar effects pedalboard and I'm interested in the "Chorus" effect for rock. What is it?

I like classic rock. When chorus came up I never like it, but I'm setting up all these other pedals (phase shifter, fuzz, overdrive, delay, compressor) so I wonder if I need a chorus to make my effects pedalboard complete. Also, is chorus similar to flange?

Chorus and flange are both modulation effects. Chorus is generally used to get a bit of "sparkle" on clean sounds and provide a bit of depth. Turn up the rate too far and you get a "swirl" kind of effect. Flange is very similar to phasing with an additional element to the sound - with a relatively slow rate you get a jet engine sound. Flange and chorus are very different. Personally, I've only used a flanger once. Given the choice, chorus everytime.

I need help with my guitar pedal chain?

Ok I just got all my new pedals for my board and I need to know the EXACT order that they need to go in. I have a Jekyll and Hyde, crybaby wah, ernieball volume, boss dd5, Fs-5u tap tempo, isp decimator, line 6 dl4, bbe sonic maximizer, z vex tap a whirl, z vex super hard on, boss tu 2, and a keely compressor. Someone please help Im stumped on what order they should go in.

The first two pedals should absolutely, no questions asked, no room for discussion, be your tuner and your compressor. Neither will function correctly or as well if they are anywhere else in your signal chain. Look up what a compressor does - you'll understand why it should come before modulation effects, delays, and definitely distortion.

The sonic maximizer should go in your amp's effect loop for maximum effect. Putting it in front of the amp will dull it's effect, since the amp's gain stages will offset most of the sparkle the maximizer adds.

Beyond that... dear god, that's a lot of crap. I mean, stuff. First off, I would ask if you need all of it at the same time. Can you get by with using the dd5 or the dl4, and not both? Do you really need a volume pedal and a wah pedal? The reason that I ask is that you most likely don't have a buffered output on your guitar, and I don't see any buffer pedals in your collection. That means a high impedance signal out of your guitar, which means more pedals = more tone suckage.

You can offset this by installing a buffer in your guitar or getting a buffer circuit and putting it at the beginning of your pedal board. Boss pedals are buffered, so that will help, but some of these aren't, and for every pedal that isn't, you're losing tone when they're not on. How many distortion pedals do you really need? The decimator is cool, but how often will you use it?

Play around a lot, expiriment plenty, but try to decide if there's a way to pare down your pedal board to a smaller size - that's a lot of batteries, or a lot of power supplies, both of which mean more complexity and more stuff to worry about. When playing live, that's something you don't want - more complexity means more things that can go wrong.

You've got a lot to work with, and having options is certain a lot better than not having any - but there's something to be said for keeping it simple.

Well, if I was you, considering the type of music that I play (progressive-y with both melodic, aggressive, clean, and dirty elements to it) this would be my signal chain:

Boss tu2 - keely compressor - jekyll/hyde - dd5 w/tap tempo - crybaby wah - super hard on w/ sonic maximizer in the fx loop

Tuner so I can tune, compressor to keep a non-noisy tone compressed, the jekyll/hyde for rhythm distortion if I need it, a tap delay, a wah, and a booster pedal for solos. I would personally prefer to have a modulation effect after the tap delay, like a boss chorus. I wouldn't use any of the rest of it, so why have it in my signal chain, sucking my tone?

I could even drop the compressor and jekyll/hyde, because my guitar gives decent tone already and I play through a mesa/boogie, so I'm pretty well covered for distortion.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Modeling Guitar Processor Info and Tips

Getting an electric guitar, but don't want to spend money on an amp...?

i know how to play guitar, although i'm not that good, i'd like to think that i'm past those "beginner pack" level. anyways, i don't want to buy a good amp, casue i don't need that to practice at home, and i also don't want to buy two amps... cause where i'm "performing" there's like a PA system, but it doesn't work w/ electric guitar, so is there some kind of like "floor processor" (what IS THAT?) or sound modeling stuff that i can use to play throuh the PA system? also play through the PC at home?

Well, it depends on what the PA systems inputs are like. If they will take "headphone" jacks for input then get a 1/4" to 1/8" converter. If they take those red and white plugs, try and find either a 1/4" Y or 1/8" Y. For modeling equipment you should know its still going to put you out some money, its going to cost about 60-300 dollars depending on the quality of the machine. If I'm think what you're thinking than you should get something between a Digitech RP 50 to a Line 6 POD XT.

Placing my Effects pedals in the right position?

Hello people

there is a correct order to run pedals with an amp. You should be using the effects loop to get the maximum amount of efficiency from your set up. I notice that you are using 3 different distortion boxes. That is overkill, the Marshall has better distortion than most pedals if set correctly. The correct order for effects is preamps first, modulation second, time based effects last. For your set up I would recommend the following. Starting with the guitar>cry baby>amp input. use the preamp out (effects send) into the tuner>distortion pedals>phaser> chorus> analog delay> digital delay> power amp in (effects return) By using the effects loop you are taking the full sound of the preamp section of the amp and running that into the pedals. This makes the pedals part of the amp circuitry, which makes them sound much better. Once that signal has been modified by the effects it is run back into the amp right before the final gain stage (master volume). which makes everything sound cleaner and not have to work as hard. This means you can decrease the gain on your distortion and clean up the noise.
All effects pedals have op amps that take the minuscule signal from the guitar and amplify up to the point where the pedal can actually affect the signal. This process adds a lot of noise to the signal chain. By using the effects loop you are taking the amps full preamp signal which has considerably more power than the small guitar signal and running that through the effect pedal so the pedal does not have to work to amplify the signal. This robust signal means that the pedals do not have to work near as hard to achieve a better sound. You will have to readjust the volume and gain settings on the distortion pedals to compensate for the change in the gain structure. The Marshall distortion is a great distortion so use it for the body of your sound. Use the distortion pedals to add some bite for lead sounds or change the overall E.Q. and maybe use the fuzz for a totally different distortion in clean mode on the amp. All wah wah pedals work best between the guitar and the amp without anything else to clutter the signal. The tuner is pretty much transparent, that is, it does not affect the signal so it works well in the first spot in the loop. Distortion pedals are types of preamps so they are first in the signal chain. If you were using an E.Q. pedal it would come right after the preamp (same as a home stereo or P.A.) Modulation effects are anything that alters the signal with a sine wave application (phaser, chorus, flanger, etc.) they are next in the signal chain. last (but not least) is time based effects (echo, delay). you want these last so that they will accurately reflect everything that has been put into them. I would set the MXR to a quick slap (about 80 to 120 ms with one repeat at a medium level so that it has an almost doubling effect. Not to loud so that it is mainly heard at the end of a note, not over the next note) set the digital delay to a long echo with two or three repeats for those soaring solos or use it as a phrase looper.
The hardest part will be deciding which distortion to put first but since they are all affecting each other just remember to use moderation in their settings. If you want to use one of the distortions after the wah pedal and before the amp to drive the amp a little harder for lead sounds then use the one with the least distortion and use it mainly as a volume boost into the amp. This will drive the preamp harder causing it to break up at a lower volume (not that a Marshall really needs to but try it out for kicks!)

Harmonix Small Stone pedal Information

Guitar Distortion effects pedal, which should I buy? Electro Harmonix Metal Muff?
I mainly play System of a down, Scars on broadway (so drop tunings) but I also play some stuff in standard. I use a fake fender stratocaster through a small 10 watt practice amp. I currently use a Digitech Death Metal pedal. Its my first ever pedal so I didnt really know what to look out for so I ended up buying a pedal that did not have a gain knob so I am stuck with this really strong death metal distortion (which is no good for some of the non metal, rock kinda stuff i play)

I have been through a lot of distortion pedals and my favorite that i have found so far for heavy stuff is the Digitech Metal Master. For lighter classic rock stuff you should get some kind of overdrive pedal like the Ibanez Tube King or tube screamer.
