guitar loop-er for my boyfriend?
i don't even know if thats what it's called, but i'd like to get my boyfriend one for xmas. he says that you can play something into it and it'll play it back in a loop so you have like your own backing track? can anyone recommend a good quality one and where i'd get one from? thankyouu!
There are a few good ones that I'm aware of.
1. Boss RC-2
2. Boss RC-20XL
3. Boss RC-50
4. Digitech JamMan
5. Akai E2 Headrush
The first 3 are all very similar, basically Boss's basic one (RC-2), advanced one (RC-20XL), and extravagant one (RC-50). The first one, has basically everything you need in a looper, is the cheapest by far, but is quite limited in extra features.
The second one is an excellent looper, very similar to the first but has more capability for editing the loops.
The third one has even more editing features. All of them can store loops, and the third one can store more as well as connect through USB to store them externally. They have some flaws in terms of accurately recording loops, and having a slightly flat sound, but are very useable.
The Digitech JamMan is of a similar level to the RC-20XL, but has the USB like the RC-50. Unforunately its sound quality is regarded to be inferior to the Boss ones.
The Headrush is quite different. Its looping capabilities are somewhat limited compared to the others, but it makes up for it by having superior sound quality and being much much easier to use in a setting with other musicians, because of its simplicity. This is the one I have, and its probably the only one that could be reliably used to create loops "on the fly". Technically its probably the best, and it's cheaper than most of the others. However it does lack the ability to store loops, and is even more limited in looping features than the RC-2. Unlike the others, it's also an extremely good delay pedal.
I would recommend the Boss RC-2 for a good general looper, or the RC-20XL or JamMan as a better version of the same. Alternatively I'd recommend the Headrush if he wants to immediately create loops while performing or jamming or whatever, but isn't too interested in creating many-layered compositions with it. If dense multi-layering really what he's into, I'd recommend the RC-50.

As for buying, there are many reputable sites that you can find quite easily, but i've never bought from any because none ship to my country. Alternatively a local guitar store should be able to get you any of these, and could offer more help. Ebay is also very good for guitar pedals.
